Cita:
A NBA Nusantara Buana Airlines Casa C-212-100 Aviocar, registration PK-TLF performing a flight from Medan to Kutacane (Indonesia) with 14 passengers and 4 crew, went missing while on approach to Kutacane, an Emergency Locator Transmitter (ELT) signal was received around that time from the area. Search aircraft located the wreckage but found no trace of survivors. On Oct 1st resuce teams reached the crash site and found all 18 occupants dead in their seats.
The aircraft departed at 07:28L (00:28Z) and should have arrived at 08:03L (01:03Z). The last radio contact was about 10 minutes after departure.
Indonesia's Ministry of Transport confirmed the wreckage has been located near Bohorok, rescue teams are on their way to get to the crash site at approximate position N03.40 E98.02 (editorial note: which is located on the slope of a mountain of approximately 1860 meters/6100 feet of height). In the evening of Sep 29th (local) the Ministry said in a press release that the wings, front portion and rear portion of the aircraft appeared intact during an overflight by a Susi Air aircraft, there was no evidence of fire. The press release however does not mention any signs of survivors. The Ministry hopes that passengers and crew are safe. The aircraft had accumulated 11,329 hours in 13,626 flight cycles. At the time of the of the flight weather services reported a cloud ceiling of 520 meters/1700 feet. Rescue teams have not yet reached the site, the condition of aircraft, passengers and crew therefore is not yet known.
The airline released the names of all 17 occupants (captain, first officer, engineer, "crew", 13 passengers) of the aircraft stating at the same time there were 14 passengers on board. The airline continued there had been no chance to dispatch a helicopter to the aircraft on Sep 29th, another attempt would be made on Sep 30th. Rescue teams still attempt to get to the aircraft over land which however involves difficult terrain.
In the afternoon of Sep 30th Indonesian Air Force lowered 4 paratroopers to the crash site to get first supplies to the aircraft in case of survivors and prepare a landing spot for helicopters.
The SAR center coordinating the rescue efforts reported on Sep 30th the first forces on the ground reported somebody shouting for help and a waving hand. The status of the occupants however is still unclear, the forces were not yet able to reach the victims. Bad weather has prevented further rescue and recovery efforts, the operation is bound to resume on Saturday (Oct 1st).
The SAR center reported on Saturday (Oct 1st) that 16 rescuers were able to reach the wreckage on a steep slope of about 70 degrees at about 5000-6000 feet of elevation. None of the aircraft doors had been opened, the aircraft had sustained substantial damage to its front section as well as the aft section at the belly, presumably from impact with the slope at about 140 knots. All occupants were found dead in their seats. Whether they died from impact or other reasons needs to be investigated.
Aerial images released by Indonesian Air Force show the aircraft on a slope in the midst of dense forest, cockpit and front section with substantial damage, the aircraft doors not opened.
The distance between Medan's Polonia Airport and Kutacane is 52nm.
